What’s this week’s question? Let’s dive straight in…

Question: Is Bass Guitar Easier to Learn Than Lead Guitar ?
Answer: Not necessarily, The bass usually alternates between the melody and root note of each chord. It still requires either learning to read music or a natural sense of what note to play. Some bass players are naturals.

ok so from what i’ve heard in my jazz band ( I play sax. in there btw) But the bass guitar plays single notes and the electric guitar has the chords. So i’d think the lead guitar is harder to do.

Well it depends on really. people take to diferent instruments differently, guitar requires a mixture of natural talent for ryhtm and persistent skill. the bass is four stringed and most agree that the tablature is easier to learn than the chords on the lead guitar however the bass played alone might not sound as familar to you as the lead as its notes are far far lower. if you are a beginer for both id recommend the lead to help stimulate your enthusiasm.

I haven’t played the bass except one time at a music store, but I’d opt for that instrument to be easier to learn since no chords are required.

Plucking by the right hand is the general trade mark for the instrument as opposed to varied methods of strumming a six-string.

A good bass player must have an innate sense of music foundation and support for the melody. When played well, the instrument is awesome.

I made an attempt to learn how to play bass years ago but found that it was hard for me. The reason: the strings are thicker than a lead’s strings and to get a better quality sound you learn without a pick and use fingers instead. I had callouses on the tips of my index and middle finger from plucking and my other hand cramped up to hold the notes.

I threw in the towel and knew I wasn’t meant for the bass. =)

I would suggest that you visit an instrument store to try out each one to find out which is easier. Bass or lead guitar is personal preference and one may be easier than the other…who knows.

if your just playing it straight…yea. but if you learn to play it slap(like it should be, lol) then it can be quite challenging and very rewarding.

If you can read music, the four-string bass is considerably easier to play than a six-string guitar: single notes, not chords plus simpler fingering.

  7. Karnelle says:

yes but you need to know both are hard because the guitar sets a new influence on the song but the bass keep the beat

    both are vital parts!
