Without Sounding Anti Feminist Ok. Women Dont Seem to Make Good Lead Guitar Players is There an Explanation?
I just love answering these lead guitar questions. Here’s another:

Sorry girls, I’m sure you don’t want to hear this, but it’s the truth.
There’s no real argument. Yes, there are a handful of decent female guitarists, but very few good lead guitarists, if any. Actually, I can’t think of even one. All those mentioned in other posts are rythem guitarists, not LEAD guitarists.
There are a few theories, one study shwoing that intelligence is spread out in the population, differently in men & women.
If you picture a graph from left to right, females tend to be equally spread out from stupid to brilliant. – Most women are of average intellengence.
Men tend to populate the extremes of each end. There are more brilliant men than women, however, there are more stupid men than there are women as well.
This is why in the male population, you find lots of really smart, overachieving scientists, artists, etc., (where are the female DaVinci’s, Michelangelo’s, Jimi Hendrix’s, etc.).
BUT, us males pay for this, buy there being a huge population of dumb-as-a-stick guys too. Far more complete morons among the male population than the female population.
Another factor is that there is far more Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in males than females, and spending 8-12 hours a day perfecting your musicianship is pretty obsessive!

kim gordon (sonic youth) and belinda butcher (my bloody valentine) are/were good guitarists, i don’t think they play lead though (belinda might’ve, kim usually plays bass but played some guitar on thousand leaves)

Have you ever heard of The Breeders, Throwing Muses, Luscious Jackson, Sleater Kinney? How about the Go Gos?
There are plenty of good lead female guitarists, just not many who get into the technical aspect of guitar like men are apt to.
I disagree….I think its just a totally untapped market. Think about Courtney Love (even though many people hate her, she totally rocks), Nancy Wilson (Heart). But to answer your question, maybe it’s the fact that you have to have short nails to find your way around the fretboard?

but as far as i know, i know a lot of girls who play better than me in guitar. it really depends on the experience of the player.
Just off the top of my head: Bonnie Raitt, Joan Jett, Janis Ian, Joan Armatrading, Joni Mitchell (if you count acoustic), et cetera. The linked article discusses a lack of female guitarists generally, although it disagrees with me on a few choices.
There are many excellent female guitarist’s, you need to look around, happy searching.
We are too busy cooking, cleaning, raising babies,reading, helping each
other, running the world without appearing to do so. This takes up so
much time that we really don’t have any left for playing lead guitar. At
least i don’t.
Artistically, I’m sure many of both genders might disagree with you. But, if this is a phenomenon that you truly have observed, I would venture to say it has something to do with that jutting, belt-high vibrating phallic symbol of a guitar that adds a touch of favor to male performers, at least from the perspective of why so many, of both genders and inbetweeners, enjoy watching a guitarist play his hot instrument so much . . .kinda like a safe visual sexually satisfying psych thing going on there.
there are tons of great female lead guitarist, carrie brownstien(sleater-kinney), alison robertson (the donnas) are just two of many great lead guitarist.
brain neuron construction, that origins in different interests. Nothing to do with superiority or inferiority, they’re just different (they’re better in other things – example: width of voice, at least one more octave than men)
