Some bands have members that stick to that role always, and will be clearly labelled "rhythm" and "lead". Others will switch around roles depending on the song/vocals. I think the Arctics are more like the latter...I used to get confused about them too. Rhythm guitarists usually just play solid chord patterns throughout a song, whereas lead guitarists play the solos and "layer" picked melodies/riffs over the rhythm guitarists sound.
