Something Wrong with My Guitar Lead?

Another lead guitar question has come in this week. Let’s tackle it straight away:

Question: Every guitar lead i’ve had has ended up with a loose connection and ended up broken, why? i’m not doing anything to damage it and i’ve tried different brands but none of them have lasted more than a couple of months. I just can’t figure out why they always break. any suggestions?
Answer: It could be just how you’re pulling the cable out of your amp, box, guitar.
Make sure you hold the plug when removing and not tug the cable.
Another thing to try is putting the lead between the strap and guitar,
and always use straight (as opposed to coilly) leads with plenty
of slack.

  1. Musician says:

Terry is correct. The trouble could be that the lead is taking too much strain.
You could also try looping the lead around your strap to prevent the strain on the plug / socket.
