In a Band, Which is More Difficult—-rhythm or Lead Guitar?

I just love answering these lead guitar questions. Here’s another:

Question: I’m not in a band or anything. i’m just wondering—which is harder?
Answer: It depends on the person playing. Different guitar players have different skills.

  1. Serenade of Shadows says:

Which is more difficult really depends on the performance type the guitarist generally practices. Lead guitar can have some pretty horrible solo sections written into it, but rhythm guitar needs to keep the steady chord progression; where a lead guitarist can easily save a solo with a sour note, it’s difficult for a rhythm guitarist to fix a bad chord progression if for some strange reason the fingers are misplaced.

I guess it just depends on how you look at it. In my opinion, a person needs equal skills to play either, and both are just as difficult as the other. There really is no definite answer.
