How Do I Get Started into Hard Rock Lead Guitar?

Well here’s a question I just had to answering straight away:

Question: ive rocked AC/DC and zeppelin on my gibson SG (mint condish) for about a year now, and wanted to know what beginner :scales, licks, and speed building practices i need to be doing.

also ive never had lessons so i really dont know evan the most basic scales

and keep in mind im going for a angus young / jimmy page sound

Answer: i’ve played guitar for 5 years now and i know no classical at all. so for rock lead guitar you will need to know some power chord shapes and positions to get well power into what you play. The most important thing is scales Minor Pentatonic scales are the best to know for rock music for a beginner i would suggest A Minor Pentatonic
Pattern 1 (A C D E G)
A C D E G A C D E G A C
——————————-5–8—————
————————-5–8———————
——————-5–7—————————
————-5–7———————————
——-5–7—————————————
-5–8———————————————

you will NEED to know how to read tab. when you have the scale down find out what chords go well with it by using the notes in the scale to make them obviously A Minor would be a good chord i’d use the Barre version. when you know the scale like the back of your hand you can learn to play the notes in different orders and time length’s and work it into a solo. try to play the scale at 90 beats per minute then build up faster (you may need to start lower than 90) because timing is everything in guitar. Add hammer on’s and pull offs to your solo’s to make them more interesting.

I’m a musician with many years of experience under my belt, and I can tell you without hesitation that the absolute best way to turn into the strongest musician you can be on any instrument is to start classical. It may not be what you want to hear (wasn’t what I wanted to hear either) and it will take time (another thing that most people don’t want to deal with) but in the end you will come out far better and more talented than you ever could have been otherwise.
