Differences Between Lead and Rhythm Guitar?
A lead guitar question that should definitely interest you all this week
Question: and is it possible to play both at the same time?
Answer: rhythm guitar is usually heard in the background, lead guitar is the one that does the solos, and the main one you focus on in a song. To put it shortly, the rhythm is just supporting the lead.

Rhythm guitar is when you play, especially, chords.
Solo guitar is when you play scales and solos, and yeah, you can do both. Many guitarists do that.
The rhythm is when you play the foundation. I’m sure you know how a guitar solo sounds.
The way that many people play them, is when they have a double neck guitar. They’ll play the rhythm on a 12 strings guitar, to sound more complete, and the solo on a 6 string. Usually, when the singer sings, you’re playing rhythm, then it’s a "spotlight", when the guitar solo(s) come(s) in.
Hope I helped!
