Anybody Know Some Lead Guitar Exercises?

A tough lead guitar question this week. Let’s dive straight in

Question: I’m a musician, and I’ve been playing music for 5 years. I play piano, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, sound tech, lighting, and media. But one thing I’m not very skilled at is lead electric guitar. I know the scales and music theory, but I need some exercises to build dexterity on my fretboard hand. Any help?

I do play guitar, but I mostly play rhythm guitar.

Answer: You should learn the song Tick Tick Boom by The Hives. It’s great practice! Mainly because it’s quite a fast song, and it’s basically all power chords. The chords are close together but the song is fast so it is kind of hard to keep up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M02bAWDFkI

For single notes, you should try Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGpbd6BUO0I
