Question: I’ve just started to learn the intro on guitar and I was wondering how long it would take to learn the whole song? (And if the start of the solo is swept because I’m useless at it)?
Answer: Basically it will take as long as it takes. Everyone learns things at different paces, so just keep working at it and you’ll get it when you get it :)

Answer: Start with riffs built round chord shapes. Classic examples are Chuck Berry’s intro to Johnny B Goode. The intro to Greased Lightning, stuff like that.
If you want to play like single string melody lines, you can find tabs for a lot of stuff on the net.

I grew up with The Shadows, an instrumental group from the sixties – Hank Marvin lead guitar – so his work might give you some idea.

Answer: Not necessarily, The bass usually alternates between the melody and root note of each chord. It still requires either learning to read music or a natural sense of what note to play. Some bass players are naturals.
